The Cardamom Mountains region in southwest Cambodia is the last true wilderness remaining in mainland Southeast Asia. Ignored for decades due to war, this remote region has an exceptional degree of biological diversity, including many globally threatened species such as Indochinese tiger, Asian elephant, and Siamese crocodile. Equally importantly, it forms a critical watershed for agriculture and fishing, the economic staples of Cambodia.

The Cardamom Project is a nonprofit organization based in New York City that has two goals:

1. To help protect the Cardamom Mountains region from environmental damage caused by logging, the hunting and poaching of wildlife, and land-clearing. We do this by raising awareness and funds that go directly to the ongoing conservation effort on the ground in Cambodia.

2. To make the Cardamoms and their preservation an avenue for national renewal for Cambodians after years of extreme hardship. We do this through environmental education programs that, often in partnership with local organizations, involve Cambodians in this precious part of their national heritage.
